Przemysl

Do you know any city built on seven hills with a river running between them? Is it Rome? No, this time we are not talking about the capital of Italy. Such unique place can be found in Poland!

Thousand-years-old Przemyśl is one of the oldest cities in our country. Here, you can enjoy an authentic Galician atmosphere and meet people from different nationalities and different religions.  Polish, Ukrainian, Russian and Jewish cultures have been coexisting here for centuries.

The city is perfectly situated for excursions to the Bieszczady Mountains, the East Carpathian  Mountains and Ukraine (Lviv). The mighty fortress over the city is one of the largest fortified structures in Europe. There is also a bicycle route running between the fortifications. What is more, you can enjoy idyllic landscape during horseback riding or hiking. You will not be bored here!

Wait a second …. can you hear the ringing bell? The sound is probably coming from the bell tower of the Carmelite church. It is worth to mention that the bells created in Przemyśl bell-foundry can be found in countries such as Austria, Bulgaria and Russia. The city can boast of having the unique Museum of Bells and Pipes, which is the result of the centuries-old bell making tradition. In the heart of the city stands the statue of the Good Soldier Švejk – the famous character known from the book by Jaroslav Hasek. According to legend, grabbing the statue’s nose will bring you good luck. Maybe you want to try it out?
